I love to speak at conferences, conventions, writing programs, and other events. It’s a delight to be part of a group of people learning and connecting with new ideas and one another. I love how people gather together and gradually relax and get excited and re-inspired about their work as librarians, teachers and writers. I do a limited number of schoold visits.
I’m happy to do any combination of speeches, workshops, panel discussions, book signings and Q&A sessions.I’m especially interested in talking about how art (music, photography, writing), and community service can make the world a better place. Bear witness, inspire change. I often use music and black and white slides on PowerPoint to evoke the worlds of people I’ve written about, as well as art from my picture books.
In Selma, a group of kids armed only with songs and determination changed history. If they can do it, so can we.
