I love to speak at conferences, conventions, writing programs, and other events. It’s a delight to be part of a group of people learning and connecting with new ideas and one another. I love how people gather together and gradually relax and get excited and re-inspired about their work as librarians, teachers and writers. I do a limited number of schoold visits.
I’m happy to do any combination of speeches, workshops, panel discussions, book signings and Q&A sessions. I’ve spoken at wonderful places like ALA, state reading and library conferences (California, Texas, Michigan, Mountain Plains Library Assoc., etc.), Vermont College, Co-operative Children’s Book Center at University of Wisconsin-Madison, Reading the World, Brigham Young University, and SCBWI national and regional.
I often use music and black and white slides on PowerPoint to evoke the worlds of people I’ve written about, as well as art from my picture books. Below are a few of the talks I’ve given recently.
